Dressing for your shape: Pear

Fall edition

One of my favorite shows (until they discontinued it) was "What not to Wear." An aspect of the show that I was drawn to was that no matter what shape or size someone was, they would make them look great and most importantly FEEL great! I think that no matter what shape or size you are, you can find clothes that are most flattering for your body so you can feel CONFIDENT everyday. Today I am featuring the pear shape, which means the widest part of your body is below your waist, around the hips.

The goal for a pear shape is to always draw the eyes up by accentuating your top half. For example, you want people to notice your scarf, necklace, or cute top. In this look I am wearing a statement necklace, which becomes one of the main points of focus. Blazers, jackets, and cardigans are great for pears because they can add fun colors and prints to an outfit that draw attention away from your hips.

Again, I am drawing attention to my upper half with a hat. Layers are perfect for pear shapes and for fall so you are in luck! Layers on top help balance the hips and shoulders, but make sure to choose tops that still have some shape so you don't lose that definition in your waist. Heels on your shoes make the leg look longer, even if it is just a small one.

Try wearing something darker on bottom (dark skirts, pants, slacks) because darker colors are slimming. A-line and pencil skirts usually work best on this body type. Normally I would not choose a bottom with pockets because that adds bulk to the hip area, but this skirt's pockets were more in the front than on the sides. Nude shoes are great for making the legs look longer. I am only 5 feet tall so I am always looking for ways to add extra inches.
